RECORDING HISTORIES 2015-
Recording histories 2015- is an ongoing series of drawings of vinyl record slip covers. Slip covers protect vinyl records inside the album covers and are often overlooked in terms of value and content.. For vinyl record collectors slip covers contain information as to the condition of the vinyl, its age, storage conditions and handling history.
Impressions of the record on the slip cover are formed over its lifetime. An unintended embossing or print, these ghostly images become a visual record of the record itself . If the record has been stored flat this type of impression can be pronounced and accentuated by dirt and grim build up.
Folded corners, finger marks and de-colouration are all common signs of use and tell a personal story of human touch; of careful handling and the anticipation of the first chords on the opening track. These intimacies are echoed in the process of drawing - replicating every unintended mark and impression, connecting me with past lives and previous owners.
